Tom Ellis

Born on November 17, 1978, in Cardiff, Wales, Tom grew up in a musical and spiritual household—his mother taught music while his father served as a pastor in a local Baptist church. Tom spent many of his early years in the church community of Bangor, where his father was stationed, cultivating a profound appreciation for music which he often explored alongside his family.

Tom’s academic journey began in Sheffield, England, where his musical talents extended to playing the trumpet and French horn in a youth orchestra. By age twelve, Tom was contemplating an acting career, a path further encouraged by a drama teacher his parents met at a school event who suggested he pursue formal theater training.

Financial constraints limited his educational options post-secondary school, preventing him from studying in London. However, a visit to a friend at the University of Glasgow introduced him to the city that would capture his heart and lead him to enroll at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Tom’s early artistic endeavors included engaging in the theatrical world of pantomime, notably starring in a production of “Beauty and the Beast,” where he portrayed both the prince and the beast. This role marked the beginning of his transition into professional acting, leading him to pursue roles in both theater and film following his graduation from the conservatoire.

Tom Ellis embarked on his cinematic journey in the early 2000s, initially securing modest roles in various British television shows and films. His early breakthrough came with the series “Nice Guy Eddie” (2001-2002), where he assumed a leading role. Tom Ellis’s personal life has been relatively serene, marked by his 2006 marriage to actress Tamzin Outhwaite. The couple welcomed two daughters, Florence Elsie and Marnie Mae. Ellis also has a daughter named Nora, aged 15, from a previous relationship with Estelle Morgan. After seven years of marriage, he and Tamzin announced their divorce in August 2013. In 2019, Ellis remarried, this time to actress Meaghan Oppenheimer.
