Hannah Hoekstra

Born on August 2, 1987, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Hoekstra’s family background is largely shrouded in mystery. She graduated with honors from the Amsterdam Theatre Academy in 2010. While studying, she was actively involved in theater, notably in the production “Underground” directed by celebrated Dutch director Johan Simons.

Hoekstra’s foray into television began with her 2011 debut in “Maastricht Cops.” Her career has since encompassed over thirty diverse roles. Her rise to prominence was marked by her performance in the drama “Hemel,” where she played a sexually provocative character with hints of nymphomania.

Under the guidance of Sacha Polak, “Hemel” was featured at the Berlin International Film Festival, garnering critical acclaim. Hoekstra’s previously unrecognized talent was acknowledged with the “Golden Calf” award at a Dutch film festival and a nomination for the Rembrandt Award. In “Hemel,” she shared the screen with renowned actors such as Hans Dagelet, Mark Rietman, Barbara Sarafian, Rifka Lodeizen, and Eva Duijvestein.

In 2012, Hoekstra took on a role in “Mister Twister: Class of Fun,” based on stories by Mirjam Oldenhave. This led to subsequent sequels. The plot revolves around a whimsical intern teacher who brightens the everyday life of schoolchildren. The film featured Willem Voogd, Cas Jansen, and Brent Thomassen.

The series continued with “Mister Twister Goes Camping” and “Mister Twister on Stage.” In the first, sixth graders and their teacher embark on a summer camp adventure. In the second installment, the teacher and his class perform a play in a retirement home, creating a blend of humor and unforeseen situations.

Hoekstra keeps her personal life under wraps, sharing little information publicly. She was involved in the development of the game Horizon Zero Dawn, providing the basis for the character Aloy. Off-screen, she enjoys traveling and delving into literature.

Hoekstra’s artistic journey continues with her recent role in the 2023 film “Cocaine Bear,” based on the real-life story of drug smuggler Andrew Carter Thornton II. The film features a cast including Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ray Liotta, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Brooklyn Prince, and Christian Convery.
